Learn How to Write Hallmark and Christmas Movies "Straight from the Heart" at Script-Com!

Romantic comedies are making a comeback on the big screen. Family dramas continue to draw massive audiences on broadcast and cable and adult dramas rule the streaming services. Christmas movies have almost become a genre unto themselves, which many of them airing year-round.


What are the secret ingredients to crafting a heart-shaped box of romantic, family, or holiday goodness? The Tennessee Screenwriting Association is proud to host the "Straight from the Heart" writing seminar at the Script-Com Screenwriters Conference on Saturday, November 16 in Nashville. The seminar will include a panel of screenwriters working in the industry today with relevant, real-world experience to share with conference attendees.


Bob Saenz has written over a dozen movies for Hallmark and independent production companies, including the successful Help for the Holidays, The Sound of Christmas, the breakout hit Church People, and he's the author of a screenwriting book That's Not the Way It Works as well as a best-selling YA novel, Jessica's Vampire Diary. Bob's latest movie, Operation Mistletoe is expected on hit Hulu by the end of the year.


Writer Audrey Shulman's book and blog Sitting In Bars With Cake was turned into a surprise hit movie for Amazon and she's written multiple projects for Hallmark like Love Fall & Order, Every Time a Bell Rings, and A Merry Scottish Christmas, among others. She also wrote episodes of Disney Channel's Fast Layne.


Writer/director Ricky Burchell's films - which are shot in Middle Tennessee - are burning up the streaming charts at home and abroad, including the dramas 3 Strangers, Anybody, One More Dream, Consider the Lilies, and AM Radio, which won a “Best Actor” award for Omar Gooding’s performance. Ricky has three films currently in post-production.
