Variety, the film industry trade publication powerhouse, recently published an article on Eugene the Marine, a thriller starring Scott Glenn, Annette O'Toole, and Jim Gaffigan. The movie, which was shot on 16mm film, was directed and co-written by Hank Bedford, a native Nashvillian. Hank and the film's co-writer Cesare Gagliardoni are both scheduled to appear at the Script-Com Screenwriters Conference in Nashville on November 16 and 17.
Hank started his professional career working in multiple departments, including as a production assistant, in costuming, set design, post-production, and he even did some acting. He directed a short film and then in 2015 directed his first feature, Dixieland, which starred Faith Hill and Breaking Bad's RJ Mitte. Dixieland became a festival darling, screening at the Tribeca Film Festival, getting distribution by IFC, and earning Hank a closer look by Vanity Fair. He also co-produced the film Foxcatcher starring Mark Ruffalo, Channing Tatum, and Steve Carrell which was nominated for dozens of awards, including five Oscars.
Cesare (aka "Chez"), is the co-writer of Eugene the Marine and like Hank, began his film career as a production assistant and actor. Cesare's path would put him on a course for post-production and eventually on big-budget movies by Legendary Pictures like Kong: Skull Island, The Great Wall, Warcraft, the Netflix original movie Spectral and on Marvel's Captain America: Winter Soldier.
Eugene the Marine was partially filmed in Middle Tennessee and is currently seeking distribution. Both Hank and Cesare will be panelists at Script-Com.
